FMCG retailers are set to benefit from a new generation of EPoS products and integrated payment solutions following the acquisition of Geller Business Equipment Limited by Consolis Systems Limited, a UK retail management software and services company.
Geller Business Equipment – which has traded under the name Geller Business Machines for more than 50 years – is currently the UK’s largest distributor of cash registers and EPoS systems for the retail and hospitality industries.
Consolis said the acquisition will enable Geller Business Machines to become a powerful new force in the retail technology market by uniquely combining its 53 years of point of sale hardware experience with the advanced retail management and payment processing software of Consolis subsidiary CES Software.
Geller is now expected to put a major emphasis on developing integrated EPoS payment solutions for FMCG retailers that are switching from stand-alone cash registers to more sophisticated technology-led systems. The new systems will provide vital management information, as well as stock control and low-cost electronic payment solutions.
Norman Geller, managing director of Geller Business Machines, said: “We have been working on this great move forward for the company for some time. It marks the next step in the evolution of our business which began with press down key cash registers in 1957, then the first electronic models in the 1970s, and more recently web-based PC cash registers.
“With the financial resources to take the company forward, we can now look at developing the next generation of EPoS products. This will enable us to take full advantage of the changing needs of the retail industry as it emerges from the recession.”
He added: “We and Consolis have complementary skills, but a shared belief in the future of EPoS in the UK. We have several innovative projects in the pipeline which we will bring to market over the next year.”
Peter Moore, managing director of Consolis Systems, said: “Geller has been working closely with our subsidiary CES Software for about 12 years. It became apparent that there are a lot of synergies between Geller’s robust and affordable hardware innovations and the new software we are developing. When the opportunity arose to acquire Geller, it made sense to bring the two companies together.”
Moore added: “Geller already provides some excellent products and has a great reputation for reliability and integrity. We aim to take the company to a new level by enabling them to offer a broader and more complete range of EPoS products – with increased 24-hour hardware and software support – and get these new products into the market faster." Geller will become part of the Consolis group of companies, but will continue to operate under the name Geller Business Machines. |
