Kingsmill reduces CO2 footprint
Kingsmill reduces CO2 footprint
In an effort to reduce its carbon footprint of its deliveries, Kingsmill has introduced 23 'Teardrop' trucks into its fleet.

"Although extensive work has been done to reduce emissions of articulated lorries, little research had been carried out into improving smaller, rigid vehicles used in urban environments" said Paul Longley, Allied Bakeries’ logistics director.

The new Teardrop truck has been designed to be more aerodynamic than traditional delivery vehicles to reduce fuel consumption.

Two other trucks were also tested by Kingsmill. The Teardrop EcoStream will be analysed to ensure improved fuel economy to justify any additional spend on the more expensive vehicles.

Longley said: "The important question is how well these trucks perform in urban areas. We'll be carrying out controlled tests at each of our sites, and hoping the new vehicles reduce emissions by 5%."

If the trials are successful, Kingsmill will introduce the new trucks across its entire fleet of vehicles.

The new trucks will carry the strapline 'Kingsmill, on the road to slicing emissions'.
