A recent survey carried out by TNS has found that the majority of those asked felt more of an emotional attachment to M&S than any other supermarket.   

Respondents were classed as fans of the brand according to a calculation based on the level of retention of the customer, how much they trust the brand and how enthusiastic they are about the brand.   

Waitrose also performed strongly, coming in afew percentage points behind M&S. At the bottom of the league come the local convenience stores such as SPAR and Budgens, with 6% and 4% respectively.
